Story

The Buckingham Murders

The pivotal crime drama ‘The Buckingham Murders’ tells the story of a detective Jasmeet Bhamra who struggles with the sorrow of losing her son. She relocates to a quiet town in England to try and start afresh, but destiny seems to have other things in store for her. Shortly after relocating, Jasmeet finds herself working on a baffling case about the murder of a little boy.

As she extends her investigation further and further, she stumbles upon awful facts about the boy’s family and the locality a quaint close-knit one that baffles her. A case like this poses more than a few challenges, not least of which include the internal delivery of the case and the evocation of emotional stresses that one so deeply roots within her history. The emotions and pain Jasmeet feels throughout this entire process is more than one’s imagination of ‘a rollercoaster’ which I assure is not the most pleasant analogy.

The Buckingham Murders

However, The intense grief and trauma she constantly buries inside are scary but very real. The film shows the evolution of Jasmeet who has been searching for something, living with pain for a long time with justice still eluding her. There are thrilling moments with shocking twists and heart-wrenching scenes throughout which will ensure to keep you engaged throughout. This film is directed by Hansal Mehta with Kareena Kapoor Khan’s impactful performance, it turns out to be suspenseful, dramatic, and heartwarming storytelling.

Box Office Records of ‘The Buckingham Murders’

  • Total Gross: ₹1.55 crore (approx.) within the first two weeks
  • Total worldwide gross as of November, 2024 (Latest): Between ₹24.32 crore (approx.) globally.

My Overall Experience

We all know that Kareena Kapoor Khan is a very versatile actor, and in ‘The Buckingham Murders’ movie, she shows her versatility very well. At the theatre, the first half flew by very fast, and I could not take my eyes off the screen even for a moment, as the story was very engaging. In the second half, a new chapter unfolds, full of twists and turns, which I liked. Most of the time, you predict something, but something completely opposite happens in the movie.

In this film, many local actors are cast, which gives the movie a more realistic touch and keeps its authenticity. Mainly, it feels like you’re watching a Hollywood movie, but with Indian actors. Overall, the movie is full of crime, suspense, and drama, but the main point is there are many adult scenes. If you are thinking of watching it with your children, don’t. Instead, watch it alone or with other adults.

Overall, for me, it’s a marvellous film, and personally, I give it a 3.8/5. Currently, it’s available on Netflix, so go and watch it now!

Learnings from ‘The Buckingham Murders’

  • No 1: The film highlights the devastating and lasting effects of trauma, especially the loss of a child who died here. It shows how grief can profoundly affect a person’s life.
  • No 2: The film also shows the problems that exist in the judicial system. The film exposes the flaws and biases that the judicial system faces, such as racial profiling and the pressure to close cases quickly. So, a lesson to be learned from this is that if we don’t protest against injustice, we may also have to go through such a system at some point.
  • No 3: When something bad happens in people’s lives, we need empathy. Here too, this movie emphasizes the importance of empathy and understanding, especially in dealing with grief and trauma. It shows how communication and empathy can play a vital role in healing and reconciliation.
